A self-governing residential community built around a conservation commons, within walking distance of downtown Lenox.

Formerly Ananda Hall, a Gilded Age “cottage” owned by Cortland Field Bishop, Bishop Estate was incorporated in 1974 as a home owner association. As stipulated in our governing rights & covenants document, much of the land is protected as a conservation commons managed by the association board.
Famed landscape architect Beatrix Farrand designed the original setting for Ananda Hall in the style of an English country park, and the distinguished architect Louis Kahn prepared the site plan for the present residential community. We consider their creative visions as legacy assets worthy of restoration (in the case of Farrand) and protection.
The association actively stewards over sixty acres of meadows and woodlands with an emphasis on native biodiversity and ecological balance. We also maintain a network of trails for walking, snow-shoeing, skiing and close observation of our abundant wildlife.
Please note: Use of our private interior roads for cars, motorcycles and bikes by anyone except BEA members and their invited guests is strictly prohibited. Our roads are private driveways, not public thruways.
